The APPNZ Learning Professional Competency  Model is based on 6 key areas of Learning and defines the outcomes expected at each level. Learning Professionals can use this model to assess where their current skill level is, how this links to their current and future role and what training and development they want to take to grow their skills further.

Membership Options

Salary & Role Information

The APPNZ L&D Training Programme runs over 12 months.


Each fortnight there is a recorded briefing that you can watch either individually or as a team, and then complete the practical exercises to test your knowledge or skills. These exercises can be either completed online, or if you are a Manager running the programme with your team, these can be printed off and completed as a team.


Once you have completed the programme you can apply to be a Certified Member of APPNZ.


Alternatively if you have already completed some learning & development training you may wish to just purchase individual modules to complete.


Completing the programme costs $1,495 + GST for non members or $995 + GST for Student or Affiliated Members. Individual modules cost $65 + GST for non members or $45 + GST for members.

Using Learning Styles


In this module you will cover the different learning styles including VARK and Kolb, and how to use them when designing and delivering learning.


Module 3:

Running a Training Needs Analysis


In this module you will cover tools and techniques to run a simple training needs analysis for an individual or a small team.


Module 4:

Designing Technical Training


In this module you will cover instructional design tools specifically for technical training on systems, products or services.


Module 5:

Designing Engaging Workbooks


In this module you will cover tools and techniques to design manuals and workbooks that accompany training.


Module 6:

Avoiding Death By PowerPoint


In this module you will cover different ways you can make your slide presentations engaging and exciting to connect with your audience.


Module 7:

Essentials of Presenting


In this module you will cover tools and techniques on how to present infront of an audience. This includes how to engage the audience with what you’re saying.


Module 8:

Technical Trainer Essentials


In this module you will cover how to run a technical training workshop - how to prepare, how to engage your learners and how to deal with challenges.


Module 9:

Understanding Measurment


In this module you will cover different models of measurement including KirkPatrick and focus on how to measure Level 1 and Level 2 effectively.


Module 10:

Foundations of Learning Technology


In this module you’ll cover using an LMS (the concept and how it supports learning) and how can you work around issues with your LMS.

In this module you will cover methods to manage multiple workshops or learning and how to advise and support learners.

In this module you will cover tools and techniques to run a complex or organisational wide Training Needs Analysis learning.

Running Train the Trainer


In this module you will cover tools and techniques to train other trainers - what to cover and different ways and innovative ways to structure this.

Effective Facilitation


In this module you will cover tools and techniques to learn how to effectively facilitate a session - with or without content.


Module 16:

Using storytelling for Learning Engagement


In this module you will cover the essentials of story telling and different methods these can be used to build learning engagement.

Measuring Level 3 impact


In this module you will cover different ways you can measure Level 3 of KirkPatrick’s model - with real life scenarios and case studies.

Designing e-learning modules


In this module you will cover tools and techniques to design e-learning modules using different sytems and technology.

Introduction to Learning Curation


In this module you will cover the concepts of learning curation and explore different methods that can be used to curate content.

In this module you will cover methods of developing and delivering learning internally or externally, working with an external trainer and budget management.
