In HR there are many different options that you can take during your career in terms of your roles, but also the HR solutions that you deliver to your business. It’s essential for HR professionals developing their judgement and skills to be able to discuss and receive guidance from more experienced HR people. Earlier on in your HR career it can be difficult to know what you should be doing to develop yourself for your career path and to succeed in your current and future roles. Getting advice from someone who has been through this who can give you suggestions, put you in touch with the right people and advise on training and development opportunities that you may not have considered, is incredibly valuable. Even further on in your HR career, having access to a mentor to discuss issues with can help stretch your skills and achieve more.
APPNZ has a 6 month mentoring programme, with streams starting in February, June and October. Our HR Mentors include HR Professionals from our HR Advisory Panel as well as other experienced HR Business Partners, HR Managers and HR Directors.
Our mentors will work with you on the following:
Discussing your strengths, and which areas you may need to develop more experience in
Discussing where you see your career path heading, and what skills and knowledge you may need to develop to achieve this
Putting you in touch with other HR professionals to learn from
Advising on training and development opportunities that may be useful
Providing advice and support on how to overcome the learning challenges you may be facing
Sharing their own career path, and tools and techniques that have worked for them
Being a sounding board on what actions you should be taking in different situations
