The HR Advisory Panel represent the HR profession. They include representatives for different industries, different level HR roles, practitioner and academic roles and from locations across New Zealand. The Panel advise the Association on activities, assess applications for Professional Associates, organise events and run other initiatives. Our HR Advisory Panel are:

Aaron McIntosh is a qualified, highly skilled and operationally focused Business Consultant providing a broad range of services to businesses across the disciplines of Employment Relations, HR, Health & Safety, ACC (including the ACC WSMP and WSD programs) Quality, Training & Development and general Business Management.


Key roles include Service Compliance Manager with Prestige, Capability Development Manager with Unison and HR Manager with Adcock & Donaldson. He has also worked with McDonalds, Fastway Couriers, Craggy Range and ESITO.


Aaron McIntosh

Kate Batkin is Human Resources Manager for NZSki and has worked in local government as well as the private sector.


Kate is responsible for managing the Human Resources function for NZSki which during its peak consists of over 1000 seasonal staff.


Kate has a Bachelor of Commerce & Bachelor of Tourism (honours) from Otago University. Kate is passionate about learning & development and creating and fostering engagement through social media.

Meredith is an experienced HR practitioner, with experience in sectors ranging from tutoring and researching HRM at Massey University to practicing HR in local government.  Meredith feels fortunate to have earned the opportunities and breadth of knowledge she’s gained in both teaching and practicing HR.  With experience in all aspects of generalist HR, Meredith is particularly passionate about strategic HRM, organisational culture and change management.  

With a Bachelor of Arts in Business Psychology and a Masters Degree in Management (endorsed in HRM) Meredith enjoys transferring her HR knowledge into a variety of contexts.  Believing that HR should add value directly into the community, while at Horowhenua District Council, Meredith and her team provide HR services to local businesses and organisations as an opportunity to contribute to the economic development of provincial New Zealand. She is now at UCOL.

Nikki Iuli

Nikki is an energetic and commercially astute business leader with a breadth and depth of experience gained in a variety of industries such as FMCG, Manufacturing, Wholesaling and Retail. She has over 27 years’ experience in Payroll and HR gained in Private equity, NZ owned and Multinational organisations.


Nikki decided to gain a tertiary qualification later in life which has been a tremendous achievement and she now has the bug. She completed a Graduate Diploma in Business, then went on to do the Strategic GM HR programme through Auckland University and is now in progress with a Post Graduate Diploma majoring in Maori Business. Nikki finds learning inspiring and finds it challenges her views which she says is always good in the later stages of life – “keeps you on your toes”.

Kellie O’Sullivan

Kellie has an HR career spanning 17 years across a variety of industries – private sector, not for profit and government. She has held roles in Europe and NZ including HR Director for the Service Delivery arm of the Ministry of Social Development.


Kellie has recently been to Stanford University to study Design Thinking and is passionate about the difference this can make to HR practice and our community. Kellie sees this as a tool anyone can use to transform teams, process and culture.

Tash is a passionate and enthusiastic HR Generalist, she brings with her a talent in relationship building, innovation and has a proven track record of producing great results. Tash has also built an international name for herself as an advocate of social media tools for professional development.


After graduating from the University of Waikato with a Bachelor of Business Management Studies in Human Resource Management and Strategic Management, Tash has spent her career navigating a variety of complex HR issues and initiatives in both public and private sector and is now working as a Senior People & Performance Advisor in the IT industry.


Richard Westney

Richard Westney is an experienced HR generalist who has held senior HR roles with Fonterra, KPMG and FNZ, a successful technology start up.

Currently a Wellington-based Director of Humankind (formerly HR Shop), he believes in putting back into the HR community and helping to raise the bar so writes a popular HR blog Up the Down Escalator (https://hrmannz.wordpress.com/), is active across social media and an active mentor of students and young HR professionals.

Megan Applegate

Megan is a self-employed HR Contractor who has worked in a wide range of HR roles in Wellington, working across both the public and private sectors. Predominantly working in the change management area she was involved in the merger of the Wellington College of Education into Victoria University, the merger of MAF and the Ministry of Fisheries to form the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI), and also the creation of the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE).

Megan has also led or been involved in many smaller organisational change projects and enjoys the challenge of working with managers to improve the way they do business. Megan also has a broad range of experience across all areas of HR built on the foundations of strong relationships and excellent customer service.

Orlaith Gadsden

Orlaith Gadsden is an energetic, passionate HR Professional  with experience in Consulting, Financial Services and Education sectors.

Her roles have involved her delivering people initiatives nationally and cross divisionally to diverse groups in New Zealand, Australia and the UK. She is experienced in managing multiple engagements and stakeholders and delivering in time pressured environments. Before joining Rees-Thomas Law, she worked as an HR Business Partner and Change Manager at Kiwibank.

Molly Workman

People & Culture Advisor, Lotto NZ

Molly finished high school in the small town of Whitianga and moved to the big smoke to pursue her desire to learn about people and why they do what they do (she’s still figuring that one out). While completing her degree in psychology and management under a bachelor of Arts at Auckland University, she came to decide that the biggest area of impact she could make was going to be making a contribution in a meaningful business environment through being passionate about the people value in that space.

Molly started as an HR Coordinator at AUT University where she also completed further post-graduate study and is currently part of the awesome People and Culture team at Lotto NZ, working in a generalist advisor capacity which she loves.

For the last 7 years Kylie has been in HR roles providing a generalist HR service to sales teams within APN Media and NZME. Her current role oversees the strategic talent acquisition and workforce planning initiatives for NZME including management of the complete lifecycle recruitment process, induction, on-boarding and employer brand management.


She is driven and focused and particularly interested in the areas of recruitment & induction, organisational culture, productivity, performance and engagement. She continually strives to increase her knowledge in her chosen field, exploring new avenues and initiatives to best serve "the end client" both now and into the future.


Lisa Hunter has worked in senior HR roles for 20 years in both in-house and consulting roles in a wide range of industries.  Her approach to HR has always relied on developing strong relationships and delivering practical and pragmatic solutions that recognise that everyone is an individual.  She is currently challenging herself  by moving from HR generalist work which she loves, into a specialist L&D role (that she is also loving).  She also has her own business where she is currently providing mentoring and coaching to a range of HR professionals.

Prior to her role at Victoria she worked with Elephant HR providing operational and strategic HR support to SME’s and HR Teams as well as training thousands of managers and HR professionals. Lisa has also managed large HR teams, worked as a HR Business Partner, and in several continuous improvement/Kaizen roles.

Lisa has a BA and Post graduate diploma in HR.

Tarryn is an experienced HR Manager with over

9 years experience in HR in New Zealand.  She has worked at large organisations across a myriad of industries including FMCG, Retail and Construction .  She provides a practical and down to earth approach to HR Management with a philosophy that stems from doing works in the business rather than just implementing best practice.  

She has managed organisations through large scale change projects including technology implementations and restructuring.  Her interest in technology and social media has lead to an investigation into how social media can be used to address issues in HRM.  She holds a Masters degree specialising in Human Resources Management as well as degrees in Behavioural Psychology and Industrial Psychology.  


Sarah Bond is an experienced Human Resources and HSE professional, currently working as a Director of Employ Me Now. She has helped develop nationwide health and safety systems, made hiring decisions for national level roles and has successfully helped people at all stages of their working life find new jobs and achieve career goals.


She gained a BA/LLB at the University of Canterbury, a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration – HSE from Massey University and a Diploma in Careers Guidance (Distinction) from NMIT.  She has worked as a both a corporate head hunter and a national level HSE, Human Resources Manager.
